Programs

We offer programs for the entire family.  Whether you want to learn to skate, advance to become a competitive skater, or build skills to excel in your team sport, we have a program for you.

CANSKATE

Is the learn to skate program all others are measured against. Canskate offers the best curriculum in Canada. This flagship learn-to-skate program has taught millions of Canadians to reach their recreational and competitive goals on the ice.

The CanSkate program is geared to beginners of all ages…children, adults, newcomers to Canada and athletes with a disability (AWAD). Whether you are looking to improve basic skating skills for figure skating,  hockey, ringette or speed skating, or  wish to skate for recreation, fitness or fun, CanSkate will get you there.

Conducted in a fun, friendly environment, the CanSkate program showcases a comprehensive series of balance, control and agility skills, using a nationally-tested and proven curriculum that supports skater success in developing stronger basic skills on the ice.

Millions of Canadians, including World and Olympic figure skating champions and National Hockey League stars, have taken their first steps on the ice with the CanSkate program. The program is delivered by NCCP coaches with delivery methods that guarantee skater success in developing stronger basic skills and developing them faster. CanSkate will help you realize your skating goals.

The CanSkate program is based on Sport Canada’s long term athlete development (LTAD) principles. The  program also includes specific skills that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating. The result is a dynamic  program that prepares all skaters for virtually every ice sport.

POWERSKATE

Is an action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette skaters that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations. Powerskate provides an alternative to figure skating and is an excellent complement for those athletes playing on hockey or ringette teams. Its unique skill award program provides incentives and motivation for skaters to continue to achieve.

PowerSkate is geared to skaters aged approximately six or older who already have basic forward and backward skating skills (they must be able to skate the length of the rink using alternate strides) and are able to stop on command without use of the boards. The recommended skill level is equivalent to our Canskate Stage 4. For safety reasons and full benefits of this action packed program for development in hockey/ringette, participants must wear full hockey/ringette equipment that is CSA approved.

ADULT LEARN-TO-SKATE and  ADULT FIGURE SKATING

Adult learn-to-skate is for all age 16yrs and older.  Skaters will work at their own pace and follow the Canskate Programming for Agility, Balance and Control. For safety, all participants must wear a CSA approved helmet.

Adult Figure Skating is for past figure skaters or graduates from our Adult Learn-to-Skate who have achieved stage 6 Canskate.  This session is for Adults who wish to either figure skate recreationally or compete at the Adult level. Adults who wish for a more full training program should consider registering in our Starskate Progam.
